Hot dog lunch Originally uploaded by piroko_kuroda
After wondering around for about 20 min, looking for hot dogs as this boy insisted for lunch, we ended up at Tully's. He told me it was the best lunch ever...
Since Miri is back, we asked her to cook us turkey dinner. It was a big portion, we invited Kaito family over for dinner. She made a belated birthday cake for Chikage, which had a decoration of "Ichigo chan (Miss strawberry)" from a cartoon "Ai Katsu". Ton was very happy though she ate only the frosting. The cake itself was a chocolate cake, which we adults really appreciated. Thank you very much, Miri!
Play date with Tai and Cheapy family at American Club. After lunch, Ton and Mo insisted on playing bowling, so we did. Cheapy scored 170, though papa was not warmed up enough he didn't get much scores. Then hit play gym, library, then we said good night looking up illuminated Tokyo Tower. Thank you, Cheapy family!
We watched a TV show this morning, and it made us to have an experiment on konnyaku
this afternoon with Mo. It's made from yam, called elephant foot or
devil's tongue in English (really?), which academic name is Amorphophallus konjac. Grated yam mixed with calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) causes glucomannan, which is a kind of polysaccharide, to gelatinize. So, boil konnyaku with brown skin of onion, it supposedly turn into red. Boiling with gobo (burdock root) makes konnyaku turn
into green. We used regular gray ball ones, though we're supposed to
use white ones, because we couldn't find them. Anyhow, do you see the
color? It's dark green and dark red/orange. If you boil it with grape
juice it will be purple and hibiscus tea will make it red. Well, it was
an interesting experiment.
Christmas party at New Sanno Hotel with Hula friends. Ton danced a couple of songs, and Mo enjoyed roast beef at buffet dinner. It was great watching those kids dance Hula! And Santa Clause showed up and gave presents to each kid.
